CMX creates a protective layer over your vehicle that is very strong. It bonds to your vehicles paint that repels water and dirt, contaminants, UV rays, chemical stains and etching. Mothers CMX Ceramic coating combines SiO2 Silicon Dioxide, with TiO2 Titanium Dioxide with a combination of some special Mothers chemistry to make it last longer and protect the paint from all the elements your ride will encounter.

What Is required for ceramic coating at home with Mothers CMX?

Best results are achieved when used on a finish that’s clean and free of paint defects, waxes, oils or other contaminants. 

For example.

If your vehicle is washed regularly, garaged and free of contaminants that may be stuck on the surface, you may simply need to wash the car and spray the CMX Ceramic Spray Coating on the surface, spread evenly and buff off after a few minutes of bonding time.

If your car is stored outside, has contaminants stuck on the surface and you have swirls and scratches, and does a lot of km’s, you may need to do a bit more prep work, but don’t worry, the result will be worth it!

Is the Surface rough to touch? Use Mothers Clay Bar or Speed Clay.

Do you have scratches & swirl marks? Use Mothers CMX Polish & Coat, Rubbing Compound or Scratch Remover depending on severity.

CMX Surface Prep – Pre-Coating (or Wax) Surface Cleaner, Remove old wax, polish residue, fillers and oils. Allows Ceramic Coating to bond directly to the paint for maximum shine and protection.

The following process is provided as a guide to give the best result possible for most vehicles. If your paintwork is new or in great condition, you may not need to remove contaminants with a clay bar or correct your paintwork with polishing before applying the coating.

Materials:

• Mothers Car Wash – High Performance Wash or 3X Foam Wash
• Mothers Wash Mitt or Sponge and a Bucket or 2 and a Drying Towel
• Mothers Clay Bar or Speed Clay Pad
• Mothers CMX Surface Prep or Isopropyl Alcohol
• Mothers CMX Polish & Coat - Polish/Cutting Compound/Paint Restorer
• Mothers CMX Ceramic Spray Coating
• Mothers Microfibre Towels and Applicators

Wash Car

Using the two-bucket wash method, wash your vehicle with car wash and a sponge or mitt. Use the Mothers Speed Clay while washing to speed up the process, using the car wash suds as the lubricant. Re-sponge and rinse off the area to ensure all contaminants are removed. Then dry the vehicle with a microfibre drying towel.

Clay Bar

Remove any stubborn contaminants using a Clay Bar or Speed Clay Tool. Break the clay in half and knead it into a nice flat surface to work with.

Spray the Instant Detailer in a small area, about 1m2 in back-and-forth motions.

Don’t press too hard, you should feel the clay begin to pick up and remove contaminants as you work. The clay will glide more easily when contaminants are removed. Wipe the excess detailer with a microfibre towel.

Paint Correction if Required

Have a look out for scratches, swirls and faded paint.

We're looking to make sure the surface is free of these imperfections prior to coating to give the best deep glass-like finish and maximum adhesion for the coating.

Using Mothers Rubbing Compound, Scratch Remover or Pure Polish/CMX Polish, work the paint till you're happy with the finish. This process can take time, but it'll be worth the result once your paintwork is as smooth as glass.

Clean Surface

It’s a great idea to give the vehicle one more once over with a spray cleaner.

Prep the surface with Mothers CMX Surface Prep.

Using Isopropyl Alcohol can also be used with a clean microfibre cloth.

Wipe down each section to make sure the surface is free of any polish, waxes, oils or contaminants.

This will ensure that the surface is perfectly clean and ready to apply the coating.

Apply Ceramic Coating

Ensure the surface is cool to touch.

Working in small sections, lightly spray the Mothers CMX Ceramic Coating onto the surface or onto a microfibre towel or applicator pad.

Spread out the product evenly across the surface, overlapping as you go for complete and even coverage. The coating may “disappear” as it bonds. Wait 10 or so minutes for the ceramic coating to bond with the surface.

If it becomes too wet as you’re wiping, switch to a new towel. If you see any hazing as you remove the coating, spray a little extra coating on the surface and buff off straight away. Repeat this on any missed spots or areas that need a touch-up. 

Stack it Up:

Apply the ceramic coating in layers for increased depth, durability and protection.

We recommend doing this particularly if you are coating for the first time. An extra 1 or 2 layers will maximise the finish and effort, making cleaning/maintaining and recoating much easier down the track.

 You can add extra coats as needed, but it’s best to wait 24 hours between applications for optimal bonding. Once it’s complete, we recommend washing any towels or applicators that you used immediately to prevent the product from drying and bonding to the material.

Watch Water Run Off

Your vehicle will now be super glossy and protected with a hard hydrophobic layer.
